Next Meeting: Saturday, May 14, 2016, 10 am
St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 800 N. New Road, Waco, Texas

Instagram, hashtags, and creativity on your phone

There has been a renaissance of calligraphy in the past couple of years, and we can see how and why through social media.  The prevalence of hand lettering on Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and beyond is exciting, inspiring, and a little daunting, if you don’t know where to look for it or how to jump in with your own contributions.  For the May meeting, Jeanne Dittmann will lead us into this online world of calligraphy.

This month’s program is going to be an introduction to just a couple of her favorite apps and how she uses them to photograph, transform, and share her lettering.  You can just sit back and watch at the meeting, but you’ll also have a chance to do it yourself, if you already have the equipment (smartphone or tablet) and the apps (PicFX and Instagram). Both of these apps are free on both iTunes (Apple) and Google Play (Android).  You will want to create an Instagram account ahead of time, if you don’t already have one.

Once we take a look at how to transform and share our own lettering, she will take us down the rabbit’s hole into some of the artists and hashtags that she follows on Instagram, which will lead you to discover your own favorites.  Be prepared: you might lose hours being inspired by the creative work being done by calligraphers from around the world (and right next door).
