Next meeting: Saturday, May 11, 2024

10 am at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 800 N. New Road, Waco, Texas

A CHARIOT LOAD
OF ROMANS!

To start our coming guild year, member Paul Herrera will present the May program on the Roman letters from the days of the Trajan Column. Our lineup of programs for this year includes a progression in time from Romans to Uncial to Italic to Neuland, with some fun sprinkled in.

Some folks think that the Imperial Roman letterforms are very scary. The mere thought of writing them makes their pens quiver in fear. Paul assures us that they can be fun because they have been his friends for years and is looking forward to sharing them with us. You will only need one stylus writing tool (#2 pencil or ballpoint pen) and a wide (5 mm) calligraphy marker. He will provide your charts and away we will go. The first century Roman capitals that were cut into the base of the Trajan Column have long been considered the very best forms of the Imperial alphabet. That is why Paul will teach us the height-to-width exemplar models for our program. Happy days ahead.

Supplies: #2 pencil and a 5 mm calligraphy marker (The guild will have plenty for sale at the May meeting. It’s best if we all use the same tool. These will also be used at the June and July meetings, and maybe more.)
