Black letter
Blackletter is a formal, ornate style of lettering. It
looks difficult, but it is one of the easiest styles to learn. You can
use it for bookmarks, short text, titles, and certainly envelopes! President Jane Stanfield will lead
us into this beautiful “hand” stroke by stroke and letter by letter.
Please bring: 8 squares-to-the-inch grid paper (if you have
it - I will have extra to share); 3 mm nib of choice (Speedball C-2, Brause 3,
Tape 3, Mitchell 1) (no felt tips, please); staff to hold nib; black ink;
loading brush (cheap small bristle brush). If you prefer to dip, bring
small shallow container to hold about ½” of ink (or Dinky Dip only if you
already have one) (I have several extra 6-well plastic pallets to share).
Another option is an eye dropper to transfer ink to your nib – we don’t want
any ink spills!!! Container for water; wiping rag (like a torn t-shirt);
masking tape to tape down your bottle of ink to keep it from spilling;
pencil/eraser/ruler; 005 or 01 black monoline pen.
